some very exciting news!!!!

I am so excited to share the following with you!!!! I was asked to be a guest designer for PageDrafts and it went live today!!! That's right PageDrafts a great source of inspiration for sketches came out with a new release #35 "star bright". I was inspired by 35.1 and created the follow layout:

Loved doing this layout. I love all the layers and the banners!!! I painted gesso and then added victorian velvet distress paint over it. I then used tim holtz layering stencil (faded dot) with lindy's stamp gang (pretty in pink pink).

Thank you for stopping by, hope you can play along with pagedraft's newest sketches:

In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different. (layout 323)

I created the following layout for two challenges:
1) let's capture our memories #91

and 2) Paper Crafter's Corner Magazine Monday week 69
#papercraft #challenge: Welcome to another PaperCrafter's Corner #papercrafting challenge! This is Magazine Mondays - Wk 69! Join In to WIN! This is our 69th #inspiration piece and it's sure to inspire another great collection of creative submissions. Will yours be among them? If so, YOU could be our next winner! Good luck everyone! (The New Yorker Cover - March 18, 1944 Poster Print by Witold Gordon)

when i saw the sketch, I immediately thought of PCC's magazine monday week 69 and all the bright colours. I decided to scrap pictures of my son playing on his slide this past spring.

I used fancy pants be different papers, title pieces and ephemera pack. I added bo bunny chunky charms (clover) and gems (recollections).

Hope everyone has a great week and can play along with LCOM: http://letscaptureourmemories.blogspot.ca/2014/09/lcom-sketch-91-reveal.html

Sparkle - Paper Secrets Sept 15 Challenge (layout 321)

So after a couple of days off recouperating after having my stitches removed (and my son realizing I was able to play normally again so we did a lot of playing over the last couple of days), I was able to get some scrapping done at night and nap-time. Here is my take:

Bedtime Stories - LCOM #90 (layout 320)

Hello, I am back with my final layout of the day, this one based on Let's Capture our Memories #90 a sketch by the talented Laura Whitaker:

Here is my take:

I changed up the sketch a bit by only having on larger photo (rather than 3 smaller ones) and stamping the background (stampin up roller stamps stars). I also used a large title (fabscraps bedtime stories misted with lindy's stampgang starburst tibetan poppy teal, and martha stewart fine glitter). The papers are studio calico (atlantic 6x6 paper pad). The stars are from the dollar store, the enamel shapes are we r memory keepers.

These moments are impossible happenings - Sketches in Thyme #129 (layout 318-319)

So a couple of weeks ago I discovered sketches in Thyme and did their #130 sketch, here is their #129 sketch:

when i saw it, I actually saw this sketch as a two page layout (so that's the direction I took). here is my take:

Okay so I know that this layout looks busy and hectic butt that is on purpose because his actual birthday was crazy, we had playgroup in the morning, then home for lunch and a nap, then woke him up to open presents, then my husband and dad went to Lloyd for a hockey game while mom watched kyle and i prepared for his birthday party the next day. So although it's busy, i love it because it captured the moments we stopped and celebrated my son!!!

supplies used:
paper: dcwv (celebration stack)
alphas: thickers (cherish; crimsom)
inks: lindy's stampgang starburst (tibetan poppy teal)
other: bazzill basics (flourish chipboard, authentique (diction), crate paper (boys rule: ephemera)

thank you for stopping by and for your thoughtful comments, hope you can play this month at Sketches in Thyme: http://sketchesinthyme.blogspot.ca/2014/09/blog-hop-sketch-129.html

Happy Halloween: pumpkin carving - Scrap Much? September 19 (layout 317)

here is another fun sketch from Laura Whitaker and Scrap Much?:

Since I am working on my own scrapping (and not christmas presents) I have a goal to get my October photos from last year scrapped before I take any photos this October. When I saw this sketch I immediately thought of the last of our pumpkin carving photos (it is a rare photo when I am in it since I'm usually behind the camera but since my son asked me to help him get out the yuckies from the pumpkin I couldn't really say no so my husband took the opportunity to take our photo). here is my take:

I really like the way this layout turned out because the triangle reminded me of the pumpkin's eyes so I immediately thought of Bo Bunny's Apple Cider 6x6 paper pad. I also used my new k&company halloween glitter die-cut cardstock. The rub-on (daisyd's) i won a couple of years ago while the stickers (jolees by you: gem ghosts) I found last year on clearance after halloween. When I had it laid out I wasn't completely happy with it (was missing something) so I added some Lindy's Stampgang Starburst (glory of the seas gold) and it gave it that messy look i was looking for (carving pumpkins is messy work).

Thank you for stopping by and hope you can play along this month with ScrapMuch?: http://nblo.gs/102PXD

Bubbles - LCOM September Colour Spot (layout 316)

Hello everyone, sorry I have been MIA for the last little bit, last week was a rough week with both my son and I catching (and getting over) the flu. Then Friday I had to go in for day surgery to have a lump removed from my shoulder, they couldn't find the lump but found some abnormalities in the skin they cut away so that is off to pathology for testing (no news yet so i'm going with the old saying "no news is good news"). However, as a result of the surgery and consequent stitches (7. . yes 7 stitches to close my shoulder) I wasn't able to scrap all weekend.

I was finally feeling better yesterday so was able to get some scrapping done and the first project I did was my take on Let's Capture our Memories color spot. Now usually color challenges are challenging for me but when I saw the colours, i automatically thought of fall (since our leaves have already started to fall from the trees) then I was motivated to scrap the pictures of last year's visit from my parents (my goal is to get the last couple of photos scrapped of their 2013 trip before they come up in two weeks. . .i think i can i think i can!!!). Anyways back to LCOM's inspiration:

Here is my take:

I am pretty happy with the way this turned out. The modeling paste (golden gel mediums light molding paste) comes in white but I wanted to add some colour to it so i took my faber-castell gelatos in yellow and coloured some in my bowl, then added some paste and mixed together, then put on Tim Holtz layering stencil (chevron). I love the effect that it has and super excited i can now have one tube of paste and tinge it every colour!!!!

Other supplies:
paper: unknown, bo bunny (apple cider)
inks: tattered angels (pinecone, indian corn), lindy's stamp gang starburst (glory of the seas gold)
other: buttons (unknown), sticker (cosmo cricket tiny text home), bo bunny (autumn song noteworthy), double sided tape, recollections glitter

thank you for stopping by and hope you can play along this month at LCOM: http://letscaptureourmemories.blogspot.ca/2014/09/september-color-spot.html

the last of my disney layouts (layout 312-315)

flights of wonder - stuck?! sketches september 15 (layout 311)

hello i'm back with my take on Stuck?! Sketches September 15th:

Here is my take:

There is a story behind the title. . .but first a little background. As you may or may not know for the last month i have been working on an album for my parents as their Christmas present. I actually came up with the idea last Christmas when my mom took pictures on her camera since my battery died and it was easier to upload the pictures from her camera card to my computer than to go up to wal-mart and print them out (that way i could edit and then print them later). Well while I was getting the Christmas pictures off the card I saw their vacation (disneyworld and caribean cruise) photos they took February 2013 so I also copied those pictures onto my computer (my parents don't know I have the pictures).

So here it is September 2014 and I have edited and printed off all their photos so i can scrap them into an album but since i've never been to disneyworld so some of the places i had to google or go on the disneyworld website to get the info but these pictures i had no idea where these photos were taken so I called disneyworld guest services and spoke to a very helpful lady (sophie) who works in the backoffice and was able to tell me which show this is (flights of wonder stage show on the caravan stage). The things we do to complete a scrapbook page :)

Supplies used:
papers: simple stories (say cheese: black dot, yellow dot, kraft dot), queen and company (magic: tags)
inks: lindy's stamp gang starburst (rendezvous raven, seas of gold), tattered angels (starfish)
alphas: thickers (crimsom)
other: simple stories (say cheese: insta squares), queen and company (12x12 chipboard stickers, self-adhesive chipboard stickers)

thank you for stopping by and have a great day!! hope you get a chance to play along this month at stuck?! sketches: http://stucksketches.blogspot.ca/2014/09/september-15-2014-challenge-and-reveal.html

Here is my take:

I am very happy with the way this came out!!!

Supplies used;
paper: simple stories (say cheese: black dots, red dots, 6x6 paper pad)
other: queen & company (magic trendy tape: motifs; magic chipboard stickers), simple stories (insta squares say cheese), ek success (disney chipboard), flowers (micheals)

Thank you for stopping by, hope you can play along this month with sketches in time: http://sketchesinthyme.blogspot.ca/2014/09/sketch-130.html

Boys Club - PCC Magazine Monday #67 (layout 309)

After an injury prevented me from participating last week, I couldn't wait to create something from this week's papercrafter's corner Magazine Monday (week 67). Here is this week's inspiration:
Papercrafting Challenge: Magazine Mondays - Week 67 Inspiration Piece (image)

What immediately drew me to this cover was the title "Seattle Met," my dad, uncle, and grandpa went to Seattle this weekend to go to the Mariner game. So my original plan was do do a layout of the three of them and their adventures but then realized I didn't have any pictures of the three of them so then was going to do an image idea of Seattle but scrapped that idea.

Back in May, I made an album for my grandma for her birthday. While I was making the album I asked my parents, aunts and uncles for any pictures they may have of my grandma throughout the years. As my uncle was travelling around the USA he was unable to get me pictures in time to give the album to my grandma but the pictures are so fabulous that I had to do something with them so I took copies of them and am making an album for my grandpa and grandma with those photos for Christmas.

I am telling you this because when I saw the magazine cover and scrapped the idea of the boys weekend it made me think of the photos my uncle gave me of a boys fishing trip from the early 90s (maybe even earlier). So anyways this is the second page in my grandparents album:

I think this fits really well with the magazine cover with the nature theme (river in the background) and the idea of a weekend getaway. Every year the "boys" go away for a week-long fishing trip (no girls allowed). I left the journaling card blank so that my grandpa can add his own memories.

To create the background I painted gesso and dried it with my heat gun. I then spread Adirondack acrylic paint in espresso in a swirly pattern using the dabber and let air dry a couple of hours. All the papers are DCWV (limonello stack). alphas are thickers (cherish: grey), the stickers i have had in my stash forever (i think my mom got them for me at a garage sale), the buttons are recollections and the journal card is bo bunny (camp-a-lot noteworthy).

some more disney pages for this weekend (layouts 304-308)

I think I am taking a break from disney layouts for the rest of the weekend as I really want to create an entry for Papercrafter's corner magazine monday so if i have any energy tonight it will be for that purpose. So I am sharing the last couple of layouts i did the last couple of days (all for my parents album):

304-305: life is one big awesome crazy adventure based on Kelly Klapstein double the fun sketch:
2014 Winter Double the Fun Sketch

The next three layouts are based on pagemaps sketches:

Look who we met - ScrapMuch? September 12 (layout 303)

It is amazing how every sketch I see works perfectly for the disneyworld album i am making my parents for Christmas. This week's sketch from scrapmuch? is a prime example; it is a sketch by Laura Whitaker:

As soon as I saw it I thought of a star rather than a sunburst so i grabbed my studio calico (mister huey v pattern mask) along with my gold faber-castell gelato and made a pattern around the page. I then took a ruler and connected the lines and then sprayed them with water and using a paint brush smoothed them out. I am quite happy with the way it turned out (not quite as amazing as in my head but still very happy with it. Here is my take:

Supplies used:
paper: simple stories (say cheese 6x6 pad)
washi tape: queen and company trendy tape (magic: motif, icons)
other: simple stories (say cheese insta squares), ek success (disney chipboard), overlay (unknown), we r memory keepers (envelope punch board), sequins (dollar store), queen and company (magic: stickers)

thank you for stopping by and for your wonderful kind comments. Hope you have a great day and can play along this month at ScrapMuch?: http://nblo.gs/ZRJBf

memories - Canadian Scrapbooker September Sketchy challenge (layout 302)

I know I'm here again with another layout (it was a super productive day yesterday and morning today) probably because i was supposto go down to scrapbook carnival in edmonton for the day but since my son is sick and my husband has a meeting we didn't think it was fair to put him in the car for 6 hours when he isn't feeling well. So instead last night when he went to bed i got 4 hours of uninterrupted scrapping time while my husband tended to our son. Then today my son napped for almost three hours which gave me some more time to scrap.

anyways to say the least i finally got around to starting my parents disney album (last couple of weeks I have been working on [and finished] the cruise part of their album). When I first saw this sketch at the beginning of the month i was completely stumped and really didn't know if i would be able to even do this sketch because even though I take a zillion photos i didn't have 9 photos that would go together. However, when i started working on the disney album and pulled out all the stuff i order and have been hoarding for the last couple of months in preparation to complete the album I came across the simple stories say cheese insta squares and it was like a light bulb went off in my head that i could use those instead of photos. Here is September's Sketchy challenge (sketch by Sue Sykes):
September 2014 Sketch

And here is my take:

Supplies used:
Paper: Simple Stories (Say Cheese Collection: Fun), Queen and Company (Magic Collection: Tags)
Other: Simple Stories (SNAP Collection - Insta Squares and Pieces - Say Cheese), Queen and Company (Magic Collection: Trendy Tape Magic Motif & Icons), Queen and Company (Magic Collection: Cardstock Stickers), Queen and Company (Magic Collection: Self Adhesive Chipboard Stickers Magic), Doodlebug Design (treatbag: brown)

Thank you for stopping by and for your wonderful comments. Hope you can play along this month at Canadian Scrapbooker Sketchy challenge: http://canadianscrapbooker.ca/sketchy/showphoto.php?photo=1091&title=september-2014-sketch&cat=540

Yum - LCOM #89 (layout 301)

I am in full-on "operation get this album done" the only thing on my craft space (aka kitchen counter) is disney papers and supplies for my parents disneyworld vacation. So naturally when I saw this sketch at 330am (alberta time as my son was sick and was needing a cuddle then to make him feel better) the wheels started turning and i was thinking of ideas of what i could do with this week's Let's Capture our memories sketch #89:

Now when I take pictures i make sure to take both horizontal and vertical. . .unfortunately, because these are pictures from my parents who got a new camera for this trip and didn't think to flip their camera all the photos are horizontal so i had to alter the sketch a bit to fit the photos. I left the journaling blank so my parents could add their own memories.

Every morning my parents would have the same thing for breakfast at the hotel (it was a continental breakfast) with a make your own waffle bar but the waffle machine was in the shape of mickey mouse (you had a choice of four little mickeys or one big mickey depending on which machine you picked). Then you could add your own toppings (usually my parents picked syrup or strawberries). I already did a layout of the larger mickey heads (they usually had those ones) so i put them all together on another layout (see spoon full of sugar: http://kylesscrappymom.blogspot.ca/2014/09/spoon-full-of-sugar-paper-secrets.html). Anyways back to this sketch. . .here is my take:

supplies used:
paper; simple stories (say cheese: seeing stars)
alpha: thickers (cherish: crimsom)
inks: lindy's stamp gang (glory of the seas gold, midnight rendezvous raven), tattered angels (starfish)
washi tape: queen and company (magic collection: magic motif, icons)
other: ek success (disney friends chipboard), simple stories (say cheese insta squares), queen and company (magic cards), sandylion (mickey stickers)

I am so happy with the way this album is turning out and cannot wait to see my parents face when they open up their gift Christmas morning :) thank you for stopping by and sharing in this disney journey with me. Hope you can play along this month with Let's Capture our memories: http://letscaptureourmemories.blogspot.ca/2014/09/lcom-sketch-89-reveal.html

Animal Kingdom - LCOM #88 (layout 300)

Here is another Disneyworld layout for my parents album that I am giving them for Christmas. Here is last week's Let's Capture Our Memories sketch #88:

This sketch is perfect for these photos since my parents got a new camera right before their trip but didn't think to figure out how to use the camera so they didn't know how to zoom. These photos were taken while on an animal safari in the animal kingdom (that is the area where they stayed).  They were perfect because the animals were so far away and it allowed me to crop out the other people in their trolley. Here is my take:

Supplies used:
paper: simple stories (say cheese: fun, bingo card, 6x6)
other: queen and company (trendy tape: magic motif), crate paper (boys rule ephemera), queen and company (magic: double sided cards, sticker chipboard), ek success (mickey chipboard), simple stories (say cheese: insta squares)

Thank you so much for stopping by and for your kind comments. Hope you will play along this month at Let's Capture Our Memories: http://letscaptureourmemories.blogspot.ca/2014/09/lcom-sketch-88-reveal.html

Say Cheese! today - Grand Diva & Rochelle Spears September Challenge (layout 298)

I am making my parents an album for Christmas of the vacation they took last year. I already finished scrapping the cruise section of the album now it is onto the Disneyworld portion of their trip.

To create this page I used the monthly sketch challenge over at Grand Diva Creative Corner as well as paired it with Rochelle Spears' tic-tac-toe challenge. Here is Grand Diva's sketch:

and Rochelle's tic-tac-toe:

when I first saw the sketch I immediately saw mouse ears where the circles were. . .but often when I am creating what I first was going to do didn't happen. Also instead of the box I used a scalloped circle (harmonie). . .but because I wanted those mouse ears in there I added them as bling using jewels and queen & co rox rhinestones. For tic-tac-toe I went right down the middle with stitching (subtitle) numbers (in the bingo card) and jewels (mouse ears). Here is my take:

other supplies:
paper: simple stories (say cheese: seeing stars, bingo cards, believe, kraft dots)
ink; crackle paint (faded jeans)
other: we r memory keepers (sew easy template: script), ek success (disney chipboard), simple stories (say cheese: insta squares)

Destinations - Scrap Much? colour challenge (layout 296-297)

When I first saw the colour challenge, i was very excited because these are the very colours i am working with to make my parents cruise album (it is a two party album disney & cruise) that they took last year and I'm scrapping all their photos (as well as some from my aunt who went on the cruise with them) and making them an album for Christmas. My inspiration came from a pin on pinterest (i know I actually used a sketch i pinned!! although i do not remember nor can i find which pin it was boo :( )

Here is this month's ScrapMuch? colour inspiration:

My take is a two-pager using up the last random photos I had left to scrap of the cruise:

As much as I loved how the cruise part of my parents album turned out. . .i am quite excited that I am finally finished scrapping it so i can start on the disney portion of their album because i have a feeling that is going to be a much funner (i know that isn't a word) part of the album to create!!!

Supplies used:
paper: stampin' up, carta bella (well traveled)
stickers: carta bella (well traveled), dollar store, close to my heart

thank you for stopping by, hope you can play along this month at ScrapMuch?: http://nblo.gs/ZLtsg
